Nasrin Sotoudeh's Telephone Privileges Removed; Increased Concerns of a Possible Transfer to Prison in Varamin

Sunday May 8th, 2011 - Change for Equality - Since her transfer to the Methadone Ward [reserved for criminals and drug addicts] at Evin prison 10 days ago, Nasrin Sotoudeh has had no telephone contact with her family.

Khandan told Change for Equality: "After Nasrin's transfer we went to the visitation salon, but the children were unfortunately not allowed to see her; this while for a few months, the children had been allowed to informally see their mother face to face for a few minutes in the corridor."

In her last meeting with Khandan, Sotoudeh informed her husband that the judicial authorities plan to move a number of female prisoners to a prison in the area of Charmshahr in Varamin [industrial city in the outskirts of Tehran] in the near future. It is worth mentioning that the rulings against Sotoudeh have not been confirmed by the Revolutionary Court, making her temporary arrest illegal under the Islamic Penal Code.

While expressing concern regarding his wife's potential transfer to a prison in Charmshahr Varamin, Khandan said: "Taking the children to the wilderness in the outskirts of Varamin when it's unclear if there are even any safe roads in that area is very risky, particularly in the heat of the summer and given the conditions of that region. It will make it close to impossible for the children to have face to face visitation with their mother."

Reports that some female prisoners may be transferred to prisons around Varamin has caused major concern amongst the families of these political prisoners.  Gharchak prison in Varamin is known as the "second Kahrizak". The female prisoners who have been transferred from Gohardasht prison in Karaj to Gharchak have described the conditions as frightfully unbearable.

قطع تماس های تلفنی نسرین ستوده و نگرانی از انتقال او به زندان ورامین

تغییر برای برابری - از 10 روز پيش که نسرين ستوده را به بند متادون منتقل كرده‌اند تماس های تلفنی او با خانواده قطع شده است.

رضا خندان در گفتگو با تغییر برای برابری ضمن اعلام این موضوع افزود:« اولين بار پس از اين جابجايي به سالن ملاقات مراجعه كرديم و متاسفانه از ملاقات حضوري بچه‌ها ممانعت كردند اين در حالي بود كه از چند ماه پيش بچه‌ها مي‌توانستند 5 دقيقه‌ به طور غير رسمي مادرشان را حضوري در راهرو ملاقات كنند.»

نسرین ستوده در آخرین ملاقات با همسرش گفته بود كه قرار است به همين زودي آنها را به زنداني در اطراف چرم‌شهر ورامين منتقل كنند. اين در حالي است كه نسرين ستوده نه تنها محكوميت قطعي ندارد بلكه در حال حاضر قرار بازداشت موقتي هم از 4 ماه پيش به اين طرف به او ابلاغ نشده است و در اين مدت به طور غير قانوني نگهداري شده است.

رضا خندان با ابراز نگرانی از انتقال همسرش به زندان چرم شهر ورامین می گوید:« بردن بچه‌ها به بيابانهاي اطراف ورامين كه اصلا معلوم نيست حتي جاده‌ي امن و سالمي هم داشته باشد كاملا مخاطره آميز است. مخصوصا در گرماي تابستان و شرايط آن منطقه تقريبا غير ممكن است و اصلا معلوم نيست بتوانند ملاقات حضوري داشته باشند يا نه»

انتقال برخی از زنان زندانی به زندان های ورامین بر میزان نگرانی های خانواده ها افزوده است. زندان قرچک ورامین زندانی است که به كهريزك دوم معروف شده است و زندانياني كه ظرف چند روز گذشته از گوهر دشت كرج به آنجا منتقل شده‌اند وضع آنجا را بسيار هولناك و غير قابل تحمل توصيف كرده‌اند .
