Sunday May 8th, 2011 - In a letter addressed to Dr. Mohammad Hassan Ziaeefar, the Head of the Iranian Islamic Human Rights Commission, the families of female political prisoners at Gharchak prison in Varamin [industrial city in the outskirts of Tehran] demanded immediate attention to the dire condition of their loved ones behind bars.
The content of the letter provide to Kaleme is as follows:
To the Head of the Islamic Human Rights Commission, Mr. Mohammad Hassan Ziaeefar,
We write you this letter desperately worried, with no recourse but to watch our loved ones slowly destroyed before our very eyes at "Gharchak" Prison in Varamin. It is with great regret that we inform you that after months of correspondence with the Judicial authorities in Iran and numerous ignored requests, not only have the conditions of our loved ones not improved, but they have now been transferred to a new prison. If it were not for the lessons and experiences of Kahrizak prison, we would not be in a position today to truly comprehend the unbearable conditions our loved ones are being forced to endure at Gharchak.
Though approximately 600 female prisoners charged with a variety of crimes have been transferred to Gharchak prison, the rationale behind these transfers remains unclear. These 600 women spend their days in a hall without beds and without access to rudimentary hygiene and sanitation. Prison authorities at Gharchak refuse to provide prisoners with food and water and according to the prisoners there are no regular meal times and prison authorities serve food at their convenience. The 600 female prisoners have access to only 4 bathrooms and the same bathrooms must be used by everyone for taking showers, washing their clothes and washing other items such as dishes. Furthermore, the water supply is cut off during most of the day. In the past few days, the complaints by the female prisoners at Gharchak regarding these unbearable conditions has led to inhumane and illegal reaction by the prison authorities. It has been reported that the prison authorities have beaten the prisoners with batons. According to prisoner accounts, those attempting to escape the beatings by prison officials were trampled upon and injured by other prisoners."
It goes without saying that under circumstances where prisoners are dealing with their survival on a daily basis, demanding access to medical treatment should not be considered outside the realm of realistic expectations.
Mr. Ziaeefar, the female political prisoners at Gharchak are currently being held with other inmates charged amongst other things with murder, trafficking and theft. These prisoners have informed their families that their lives are at risk and as a result they have decided to launch a hunger strike protesting the unbearable conditions at Gharchak prison. Given the utter lack of attention by the prison authorities, we are fearful that they may become the first official victims of neglect at Gharchak. Let us not forget that many lost their lives in a similar manner at Kahrizak prison not long ago, where the circumstances were very similar to what we are witnessing at Gharchak today.
A humanitarian catastrophe is about to unfold at Gharchak prison and the victims this time around are the female prisoners behind bars at this prison.
Mr. Ziaeefar, the painful reports regarding the circumstances of our loved ones at Gharchak prison are of grave concern and yet we have no one within Iran's Judiciary to turn to. Our concerns are not just limited to the lives of the prisoners being at risk. What is occurring at Gharchak prison is a violation of basic human rights. There are 600 individuals whose lives are at risk at this very moment. With this letter, we draw your attention to the specific conditions at Gharchak. We ask that you waste no time, not even an hour, and ensure that the unbearable conditions at Gharchak are addressed immediately.
The prisoners of conscience are clearly behind bards as a result of their beliefs and ideals. They have done nothing to deserve such a life. Before it is too late, we therefore ask that you take immediate measures to resolve the unacceptable circumstances of the female political prisoners at Gharchak prison.
Mr. Ziaeefar, do the events at Gharchak prison fulfill your promise of Islamic Human Rights? If you are unable to ensure that Islamic rights are observed in prison, at least make sure that the bare minimum human rights are observed when it comes to women political prisoners behind bars.

کلمه:خانواده های زندانیان سیاسی زن در قرچک ورامین با نوشتن نامه ای خطاب به دکتر محمدحسن ضیایی‌فر، ریاست کمیسیون حقوق بشر اسلامی از وی برای رسیدگی فوری به وضع عزیزان شان در این زندان استمداد طلبیده اند.این خانواده ها در بخشی از نامه خود نوشته اند:« اگرچه در روزهای گذشته از شنیدن آنچه بر عزیزانمان در زندان می‌گذرد، قلب‌هایمان آزرده شده است و نمی‌دانیم باید دادمان را از کدام مقام مسئول در این کشور بستانیم. اما امروز تنها برای جان زندانیان سیاسی چانه نمی‌زنیم. آنچه در زندان قرچک ورامین می‌گذرد، نقض ابتدایی‌ترین حق انسانی افراد است. هم‌اکنون ۶۰۰ انسان در این زندان در خطر مرگ قرار دارند و ما بوسیله این نامه، می‌خواهیم توجه شما را نسبت به شرایط ویژه این زندانیان جلب کنیم .»

با سلام و احترام
این نامه را درحالی برای شما می‌نویسیم که مستاصل و نگران، ذره ذره آب شدن عزیزانمان را در زندانی به نام ” قرچک ورامین” به نظاره نشسته‌ایم و افسوس که از پس ماه‌ها نامه‌نگاری و دادخواهی نزد ریاست قوه قضائیه، نه تنها بهبودی در وضعیت عزیزان زندانی ما حاصل نشد که امروز به زندانی انتقال یافته‌اند که اگر نبود، تجربه بازداشتگاه ” کهریزک”، شاید نمی‌توانستیم، درک صحیحی از آنچه زندانیان از شرایطشان می‌گویند داشته باشیم.
هم‌اکنون حدود ۶۰۰ زن زندانی، با اتهام‌های مختلف، به زندان قرچک انتقال یافته‌اند، هنوز علت این نقل و انتقال بر ما روشن نیست. این ۶۰۰ زن، در یک سالن، بدون تخت، بدون امکانات ابتدایی زندگی و بهداشتی روزهایشان را سر می‌کنند. مسئولان زندان از دادن آب و غذا به زندانیان خودداری می‌کنند و به گفته زندانیان، وعده‌های غذایی مرتب در این زندان وجود ندارد و نگهبانان هرگاه دلشان بخواهد غذا در اختیار زندانیان قرار می‌دهند. ۴ سرویس بهداشتی برای ۶۰۰ زن زندانی وجود دارد که تمامی کارهای خود از قبیل لباس شستن، ظرف شستن و حمام کردن را نیز می‌بایست در همین سرویس‌‌ها انجام دهند. در حالی‌که در بیشتر ساعات روز نیز آب زندان قطع است.در روزهای گذشته اعتراض زندانیان نسبت به وضعیتشان با واکنش غیرانسانی و غیر قانونی مسئولان زندان مواجه شده است، به طوری‌که ماموران با باتوم تمام معترضان را مورد ضرب و شتم قرار داده‌اند. زندانیان می‌گویند:” کسانی که قصد فرار از دست ماموران را داشتند تا کتک نخورند، زیر دست و پای سایر زندانیان می‌افتادند و صدمه می‌دیدند.”
واضح است که در چنین شرایطی، سخن گفتن از نبود امکانات پزشکی و درمانی، توقع گزافی است. چرا که زندانیان ما، برای زنده ماندن مبارزه جانفرسای روزانه‌ای را آغاز کرده‌اند.
جناب آقای ضیایی‌فر
زندانیان سیاسی زن هم‌اکنون در میان شمار زیادی از زندانیان با جرایم مختلف از قبیل قتل، قاچاق، دزدی، و .. زندگی می‌کنند. آنها در تماس‌هایشان با خانه تنها اعلام کرده‌اند که در صورت ادامه یافتن نگه‌داری آنان در زندان قرچک ورامین، به دلیل شرایط اسف‌بار موجود جانشان در مخاطره است. زندانیان سیاسی، از امروز در اعتراض به شرایطشان دست به اعتصاب غذای نامحدود زده‌اند و بیم آن می‌رود که در پی بی‌توجهی مسئولان، نامشان به عنوان اولین قربانیان این زندان ثبت شود.
پیش از این نیز در بازداشتگاه ” کهریزک” زندانیان در شرایط مشابهی نگه‌داری می‌شدند که در پی آن، سه تن از افراد زندانی در این بازداشتگاه جان باختند.
اکنون در زندان قرچک ورامین، یک فاجعه انسانی در حال وقوع است و قرار است قربانیان آن این بار، زندانیان زن باشند.

اگرچه در روزهای گذشته از شنیدن آنچه بر عزیزانمان در زندان می‌گذرد، قلب‌هایمان آزرده شده است و نمی‌دانیم باید دادمان را از کدام مقام مسئول در این کشور بستانیم. اما امروز تنها برای جان زندانیان سیاسی چانه نمی‌زنیم. آنچه در زندان قرچک ورامین می‌گذرد، نقض ابتدایی‌ترین حق انسانی افراد است. هم‌اکنون ۶۰۰ انسان در این زندان در خطر مرگ قرار دارند و ما بوسیله این نامه، می‌خواهیم توجه شما را نسبت به شرایط ویژه این زندانیان جلب کنیم .ما از شما می خواهیم حتی یکساعت هم وقت را تلف نکنید و به وضع این زندانیان فوری رسیدگی کنید.
واضح است که زندانیان سیاسی، زندانیان عقیده و آرمانشان هستند و هیچ گناهی مرتکب نشده‌اند که شایسته چنین زندگی‌ای باشند، ما می‌خواهیم پیش از آن‌که دیر شود، در خصوص وضعیت زندانیان زن در زندان قرچک ورامین اقدامات فوری انجام گیرد.

ما از شما می پرسیم، آیا آنچه در این زندان می گذرد، همان چیزی است که شما به عنوان حقوق بشر اسلامی وعده‌اش را داده بودید ؟
اگر نمی‌توانید، موازین اسلامی را در زندانها رعایت کنید. حداقل اقدامی انجام دهید تا موازین حداقلی انسانی در مورد زندانیان زن در این زندان رعایت شود.

وای جنگل را بیابان می‌کنند
دست خون‌آلود را در پیش چشم خلق پنهان می‌کنند
هیچ حیوانی به حیوانی نمی‌دارد روا
