Political Prisoners at Rajai Shahr Prison Enter Their Second Week of Hunger Strike

Monday April 25th, 2011 - Daneshjoo News reports that the hunger strike by a number of political prisoners at Rajai Shahr prison, protesting the authoritarian rule by the regime and dire prison conditions, entered its second week, the prisoners announcing that they plan to continue their peaceful protest to "no to dictatorship".

Last week, in an open letter to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, while reiterating their intent to continuing protesting in prison, the prisoners at Rajai Shahr prison now on their second week of hunger strike, called upon the UN Secretary General to send a Special Rapporteur to Iran to address the condition of prisoners and investigate human rights violations.  The following is an excerpt from the open letter written to the UN Secretary General:

"Following the experiences of the hunger strike on Sunday April 10th, we a number of political prisoners and civil and political activists, on our first week of hunger strike will fast for one day on Sunday April 17th, 2011. In the second week, we will fast for two days on Sunday April 24th and Monday April 25th. In the third week, in honor of International Workers' Day [May Day], Teachers' Day and World Press Day, we will fast for three days on Sunday May 1st, Monday May 2nd and Tuesday May 3rd, announcing our solidarity with workers, teachers and journalists and protesting the oppression and many pressures exerted upon them."

The political prisoners at Rajai Shahr prison, kept under dire conditions and deprived of all telephone contact continued: "In the event that the current regime does not cease its authoritarian rule and continues to deny the implementation of the nation's legal provisions based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, this protest movement will resume in the form of an unlimited hunger strike on Sunday May 22nd, 2011 and will continue until we have achieved our demands."

Mansour Osanlou leading trade union activist, Rasoul Bedaghi of the Iranian Teacher’s Association, student activist Majid Tavakoli, journalist Isa Saharkhiz, political activists Heshmatollah Tabarzadi,  Keyvan Samimi and Mehdi Mahmoudian are amongst the signatories of the letter to the UN Secretary General.

اعتصاب غذای زندانیان سیاسی رجایی شهر در دومین هفته از برنامه اعتصاب

اعتصاب غذای زندانیان سیاسی زندان رجائی شهر کرج، در دومین روز از هفته جاری، و در اعتراض به خودکامگی حاکمیت و شرایط بسیار بد زندانیان ادامه یافت. این زندانیان اعلام کرده اند که به اعتراض مسالمت آمیز خود با "نه به دیکتاتور" ادامه خواهند داد.

به گزارش دانشجونیوز، جمعی از زندانیان سیاسی زندان رجائی شهر کرج که در نامه ای به آقای بان کی مون، ضمن تاکید بر ادامه اعتراض خود در زندان، خواستار اعزام گزارشگر ویژه جهت رسیدگی به وضعیت زندانیان و هم چنین حقوق بشر در ایران شده بودند، امروز در دومین روز از هفته دوم برنامه اعتصاب غذا شرکت کردند. بنابر گزارش رسیده، در دو روز گذشته مطابق با برنامه ای که از پیش و در نامه به آقای بان کی مون اعلام شده بود، برنامه اعتصاب غذای زندانیان ادامه داشته است. در بخشی از این نامه آمده است: " پس از تجربه‌های اعتصاب غذای یکشنبه ۲۱ فروردین، ما جمعی از زندانیان سیاسی و فعالان سیاسی و مدنی در هفته نخست از روز یکشنبه ۲۸ فروردین اعتراض سیاسی خود را با اعتصاب غذا به مدت یک روز آغاز می‌نمائیم، در هفته دوم روز یک شنبه ۴ اردیبهشت و دوشنبه ۵ اردیبهشت به مدت دو روز به اعتصاب غذا خواهیم کرد.
در هفته سوم نیز همزمان با روزجهانی کارگر و روز معلم و روز جهانی مطبوعات در روزهای یک شنبه ۱۱ اردیبهشت و دوشنبه ۱۲ اردیبهشت و سه شنبه ۱۳ اردیبهشت همبستگی خود را با کارگران، معلمان و روزنامه نگاران در اعتراض به فشار‌ها و ستم‌های فراوان برایشان با سه روز اعتصاب غذا اعلام می‌داریم."

زندانیان سیاسی زندان رجایی شهر کرج، که در شرایط بسیار نامناسبی نگهداری می شوند و تمامی تماس های تلفنی آنان قطع شده است، در ادامه ضمن تاکید بر ایستادگی بر سر خواسته های خود تا تحقق همه موارد گفته اند: " در صورتی که حاکمیت حاضر نشوند دست از خودکامگی برداشته و تمامی مفاد حق قانونی ملت را بر مبنای اعلامیه جهانی حقوق بشر اجرا کند این حرکت اعتراضی از روز یک شنبه اول خرداد ماه به صورت اعتصاب غذای نامحدود تا رسیدن به خواسته‌هایمان ادامه خواهیم داد."

منصور اسانلو، رسول بداقی، مجید توکلی، عیسی سحر خیز، کیوان صمیمی، حشمت الله طبرزدی و مهدی محمودیان از جمله امضا کنندگان این نامه می باشند.
